T: Brett, thanks so much for the kind words.  It seems like you blog has gotten off to a pretty good start.

That watch strap is bitchin.  It’s a much more manly watch strap than most of the NATO bands us style bloggers (including me) wear.  I like the worn in leather and the design on the clasp.

Before you go, I have two questions:

1. How much did this bad boy set you back?

2. Which watch are you going to pair the strap with?

T: I finally drank the menswear blogger Kool-aid and bought some JCrew watch straps.  After sweating through a swampy Philly/Brooklyn summer, my watch strap for this watch (LaCoste via Gilt) got too grungy and I needed to explore other options.
These watch straps are on sale and cost anywhere from 10-15 dollars at JCrew and even come packaged in fun little tubes.  What I like most about them is that they add color to any warm weather outfit.  However, I might need to get an extra leather band because I’m not sure if I can get away with wearing them year round
A word to the wise—JCrew only carries watch straps in 18 mm.  If your watch has a wider band (either 20 or 22 mm), just google NATO watch strap and see what you find.
If you are looking for the JCrew link, check here.

My Everyday Watch

T: A lot of blogs feature 2 kinds of watches:

1. A Timex or some other cheap watch attached to a colorful nylon watch strap (most likely from JCrew).

2. Expensive (and possibly vintage) watches that cost well over a grand—also known as watch porn.

Now I know that there are many watches that do not fall into these categories.  Personally, I own a couple of watches that do not meet these criteria.  However, the watch that I wear the most these days is actually a digital watch from GShock

GShockAlthough this isn’t my most formal watch, I wear it to almost every occasion.  Yesterday, I wore it to a deli, around the house, and then to a bar. This morning, I wore it while I went running so I could time myself while I ran.  I have worn this watch hiking at the Grand Canyon, swimming in the ocean, and to dinner with my girlfriend’s parents.  I also wear this watch to my job as an teacher almost every day mainly because children loved to be timed and have races.

I love this watch for a few reasons.  The first one is that the band is comfortable and because its rubber, it doesn’t absorb sweat.  Obviously, this is great during the summer.  I also like the watch because it does so many things (stopwatch, countdown timer, different area codes across the world, date, day of the week, etc.) that it’s like a Swiss Army Knife.  I also like that the watch has analog hands so it looks a lot classier than your run of the mill cheap digital watch.

I’m not saying that you should wear this watch with a suit but, it’s a good look for almost any other occasion.  And at under 100 dollars, a durable watch like this is a good investment.

Why You Should Wear a Watch

Summer Wristwear

T: As the mercury begins to rise, leather watch straps don’t really cut it.  Your sweat begins to soak into the leather, the strap absorbs the water, and by the end of the summer, the watch strap gets stinky.  But, since I already have a couple of watches, (a chronograph for work and a digital G-Shock), I don’t have a ton of money to spend.

Currently, I have my eye on this Timex Camper available from Amazon for a mere 20 dollars (pictured below).  The watch already comes with a strap but I think that it would look even better with this 15 dollar nylon strap from J Crew.  According to L.A.S at Sartorially Inclined, all you need is a springboard tool to snap the old band out.  How that is done, I don’t know.  I guess I’ll figure it out.

The strap would be light and colorful during the summer and if it starts to stink, I can just wash it.  Between the two of them, not a bad way to spend 35 dollars.  I think I’m going to pull the trigger………..
