Frugal Friday
A: As Tom mentioned the other day, we’ve had a little bit of writer’s block recently. I want to thank all of you who submitted ideas for us, they were really helpful and got the juices flowing again! If you have more, feel free to drop us a message here.
Aaron, inarguably our longest running reader, came up with a great idea, Frugal Fridays. We’re going to give you some tips on how to dress head to toe for $100. I’ll give it a shot, but more likely, I’ll be giving you how to dress from head to ankle. Shoes blow the budget.
One of the things that seems to be lacking to most in the mens style magazines and blogs is a lack of attention to the cheaper end of clothes. I love the high end stuff as much as next guy, but unfortunately, those clothes aren’t, and probably won’t ever be, a part of my life. Derek from Die, Workwear!, usually known for his highly technical breakdowns of high end Italian clothes, expressed a similar feeling in a good post today on Put This On.
So here it goes. Dressing for the office for under $100 is tough, but you can easily do it for a casual outfit for the weekend. It’s not incredibly original to look immediately to Lands End Canvas, but they honestly make some of the best inexpensive clothes:

White T that doesn’t look like an undershirt, $20.
Slim fit chino, $40.

Oh and look at that, I even threw some shoes in for you. Vans Authentic Core Classic, $42.
If you wanted to swap out the shoes, you could swap in a sweatshirt:

Alternative Apparel, $40.

Awesome post and series idea, but I have that exact LEC t-shirt… and it looks like an undershirt. It’s just really thin. My Calvin Klein undershirts are actually thicker and look less like an undershirt than the LEC gear. Just my two cents.
